Letter # 14 (Jan. 26, 2008) - First Transfer

I'm getting transferred out of my area.

I find out on Tuesday where I'm going and who's my new companion. I was shocked to hear the news of my transfer on Saturday night. I reflected on the time I spent in Knightdale. I was a little sad because I loved the ward and knew I would miss it. Yesterday was one of the best days of my life. I went to PEC meeting. We sang for the Opening hymn, Hark all ye nations. I was to give the spiritual thought after the hymn and prayer. My heart was touched as we sang the hymn. It hit me that I was leaving the ward. This has been my home away from home. I truly loved so many of the members there. As I shared my spiritual thought, I cried. I shared 3rd Nephi 17 when Jesus is about to return to the Father but the people had tears in his eyes because they wanted him to stay. He stayed a bit longer and blessed the sick because of his love for them. He did and does everything because of His love for us. As we love the people we serve, then our callings and service become easier and more natural.

So many people expressed their love and gratitude for me during church for my service and friendship in Knightdale. Last night, I received a call from a member named Christian Simpson. He's 24, married with 3 kids. He didn't serve a mission. He's been so helpful. He went on 2 exchanges with us and he also invited 2 sets of friends to his house for dinner on separate nights so we could eat and teach them. So he told me that when he heard me bore my testimony about leaving my dad, he felt the Spirit stronger than he has in a very long time. He said that I changed his life. He said that he's becoming a better husband, father, and priesthood holder and that he'll never forget my impact. He cried, I cried! We exchanged info.
That really made my mission. If that's all I do on my mission then I'll feel like it was all worth it!

I love this work. God is a God of miracles. I'll let you all know where I'm going to next week.

Love, Elder Olaya

Oscar - so proud of you! You definitely look like a missionary, sound like one and are having the unique experiences with the spirit that are magnified as a missionary. Revel in all of you (I know you already are). Keep up the good work and keep your eye open for my relatives down there (Brian and Jill Simpson). They need an Elder Olaya to convert them!
