Letter #55 (December 14, 2009) - Leaving Chapel Hill!

I spoke to my Mission President on Tuesday. After a meeting in which Elder Koehler had with our mission president and the Durham Stake Presidency, President Cotterell told me that I was getting transferred in a couple of weeks. He told me that I'll be serving as a zone leader in the Spanish West Zone. I'm going to be a full-time spanish-speaking missionary. I was shocked, but also filled with joy. I'm grateful for this new assignment. I'm going to be on my knees in fervent prayer to adjust to the language and the culture. I know that I'm a native speaker, but I still struggle with the language. Nevertheless, I know that God will be with me and strengthen me.

Things are going well in Chapel Hill. We had a successful week in finding new people to teach. We have felt the guidance of the Spirit as we've been led to people who are prepared to hear the Gospel. Early in the week we tracted a street named Graylin St. People in that street weren't receptive. We had no success. But as we persisted in trying to find the Lord's elect, we were led to the right place at the right time. A young woman came up to us on her bike as we were contacting someone us and said, "Latter-day Saints". We were worried about her motives. We found out that she was almost baptized 4 months ago in Georgia. She was antied, or received anti-mormon messages. We were able to address some of her concerns and teach her later on in the week. Come to find out, that she lived on the same street (Graylyn) which we tracted earlier in the day. It was meant for her to meet up with us.

God is a God of miracles. This is His work. If we want, and if we do our part, miracles will happen. I love this Church. I know that it is God's Church, even the Church of Jesus Christ.

Love, Elder Olaya
