So many great things happened to me this week. I went on an exchange on Wednesday and served in the Burlington area for a day. I was with Elder Weaver, the district leader for the Burlington District. He's a great guy with a good heart. We were able to see some miracles there. We had an appointment with someone but we ran into someone outside their house. His name was Jay Murphy. He used to get taught by the missionaries over in Greensboro,NC, but the missionaries were taken out of the area. We had a great long talk with him. He said that he gets a good vibe from us. He said that he knows that we're good men doing much good. He said that there should be millions of us. Jay has such a good heart. He's been through some hard times. The Burlington missionaries will start teaching him on Tuesday. He was dissapointed to find out that I was only there in Burlington for the day. I told him that I'll be praying for him, as I gave him a hug. I have been praying for him.
We then visited the Tecklys, a couple who are investigating the Church. Elder Weaver told me that Mr. Teckly is most skeptical about joining the Church. They both have been trying to quit smoking. They were able to do it for a day, but they smoked again. We shared some scriptures with them. I shared the scripture about Peter walking on water towards Christ. As Peter had faith in Christ and was focused on him, he was able to do something miraculous. When he started to look around at his surroundings and noticed the boisterous winds, that's when he sunk. But immediately, Jesus grabbed him and picked him up. It is the same with us. As we have faith in Christ, we could do great things. If we fall, He's there to pick us up. The Tecklys asked us if they could give us the money and we go to walmart for them to get them the supplies (vitamin C and grapefruit juice) to help them stop smoking. We did. We had left them with the DvD, "Special Witnesses of Christ", the DVD with the Prophets and apostles bearing their testimony about Christ. When we came back, Mr Teckly said that the DVD was amazing. He said that he cried while watching the testimonies of the Prophet and apostles. He said that he knew that these men are men of God. He then asked, what are the requirements of baptism. We explained them to him. He then asked if I could come back all the time while they're being taught. I explained how I serve in Chapel Hill. I gave him a hug and also promised to him that I'll pray for them.
What great love I have for Jay and Mr. Teckly and his wife. I only met them once. That's the power of the gospel. We become knit together in a spirit of love. I love because I've been loved! The Spirit of God is Love. I share what I've been given. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
Elder Olaya
